Quest 3 Activity 1:

IS Discussion

Looking at the above digram, consider each element in the IS. In your group discuss the current NSW Gov app which is being used to check into venues to log visitors. Can you identify the hardware being used by this particular information system? Think about how this information system is getting the data in order to log visitors.

Input Output Processing

Computers can perform a range of amazing tasks that can entertain, educate, assist and inform our lives. Information systems provide ways for us to interact with computers through the Input and Output of data.

Computers require Input in order to perform a function. Input can be the clicking of the mouse, the pressing of a key, speaking into a microphone and so much more. Once computers have Input they then use the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Memory to process the data that you have given it and to understand what to do with that data. Once the computer processes the data it provides and Output which the user can see, hear or even feel.

Quest 3 Activity 2:

Input OR Output

Complete the IPO table in your DigiQuest journal. In your teams look at each of the devices in the table and identify wether they are an Input or Output device. (Hint, some can be both)

Example IPO

Fitbit

A FitBit is a device which can track your activity, through the steps you take, your heart rate and so much more. The below flow chart looks at the IPO of a Fitbit when registering the users heart rate.

The device uses a sensor which sends data to the devices CPU, the CPU then reads that data and sends an Output to the screen in text format showing the heart rate.
